    u型钢支护时广泛应用于矿山巷道的一种支护,由于巷道围岩的岩性分布在距离巷道的一定范围内是关于巷道竖直对称面对称的,因此常把围岩应力分布关于此对称面近似为对称。据此,在进行u型钢支护时大都是按照对称结构进行支护的。但当围岩应力分布不对称时却仍按照应力对称分布来进行对称形式的支护,无论是从经济上还是效果上都将会是对资源的一种浪费。金属支架在支护过程中,支架借助于背板而紧贴于围岩,为说明方便,此处可假设巷道周围的围岩应力都能作用于u型钢支架上,若在实际中存在分离情况,可令分离区域对u型钢支架的作用力为零。
